Hello Willow and Lilac Class!
This Week
What a wonderful first week we have had. We have really enjoyed getting to know your children and hearing all of the lovely things they got up to in the holidays. The children have settled beautifully and are exploring their new learning environment. They have been learning the routines of the day and building relationships with peers and the adults at school. They have been having lunch in their classrooms whilst they get used to having lunch at school and this has been going really well.
The children have been participating in small group work where we have been practising phase 1 phonics. This week we have focused on rhyming, initial sounds in words and sounding out simple words such as: ‘d-o-g’. We have been doing these activities in a playful and fun way and the children have seemed to really enjoy participating in the groups.
More information on phonics will be shared with you at an early reading workshop later this term, please look out for the date and time of this on Parent Mail.
We have been singing many familiar nursery rhymes and practising counting through songs.
Helping your child at home
Please continue to support your child with their self-help and independent skills such as:
- Going to the toilet, wiping themselves, flushing and washing their hands effectively.
- Using a knife and fork.
- Dressing themselves with their jumper and cardigans, buttons can be quite tricky and we will always help them when they need it but we do encourage the children to have a go first.
- We also encourage manners at school, if they are too shy to use their voice then we encourage a smile and a sign of ‘thank you’.
We look forward to another fun-filled week next week. Enjoy your weekend.
