A Year 2 Class Post

Autumn 1 Week 6

As writers we celebrated World Poetry day by reading the poem ‘nature trail’. The poem inspired us to design our own gardens and then think about adjectives we could use to describe the nouns in our gardens.

We then wrote our very own garden list poems!

As mathematicians we have been exploring fact families (e.g 2 + 3 = 5, 3 + 2 = 5, 5 – 2 =3 & 5 – 3 = 2). We also used our knowledge of adding ones to help us add 10s (e.g. 1 + 9 = 10 so 10 + 90 = 100).

As scientists we conducted an experiment to find out what conditions woodlice would like in their habitats (light and dry, light and moist, dark and dry or dark and moist). First we used our predicting skills to predict which conditions the woodlice would prefer, then we used our observation skills to help us determine which they preferred! We were then able to conclude that the woodlice preferred the dark conditions.

As Geographers we explored the country of Scotland. By exploring maps we discovered that Scotland has lot of archipelagos (groups of islands). We also explored the human and physical features of Scotland.

As digital learners we have continued building our coding skills but this time focusing on coding different object types and using different events to get objects to move.
