English
We have had an exciting week exploring poems in our Anthology ‘Being Me’, reading, listening to and performing. Ask your child which lines or rhymes they can remember from the poems they have read and listened to. Some of the poems have strong or unusual rhythms and the children have enjoyed spotting the ways in which writers strengthen the meaning of their words with matching patterns in the sounds of the words. We’re very much looking forward to reading and sharing some exciting and mature original writing from our Year 5 poets in the next week or so.
Geography
In Geography, we have been practising reading 4-figure grid references. We practised on some easy grids before moving on to real maps, which have a LOT of information on them, as well as a game or two of battleships.
DT
In DT we had a go at building DJ Bubbles, the Helicactor and the Headbanger, as well as looking at the other toys in the book of builds. We thought about how easy or difficult they looked or were to build and how appealing and fun they seemed. DJ Bubbles was definitely a winner! This was a challenging task as most children had not done this kind of lego building before. Designing their own toys over the coming weeks will seem easy in comparison!
