Generation Windrush- Black History Month

Over the past two days, Larch Class have been looking at Generation Windrush as part of Black History Month. Yesterday morning we were given a suitcase which contained various sources for us to look at including a ticket, a letter home, an advert and pictures of Kingston, Jamaica. We then learned about the people of the Caribbean who left on boats like the Empire Windrush and came to the UK to work here in the late 1940s onwards and what they experienced when they arrived here.

Larch Class were very engaged in the topic and they did research as well as watching some Newsround clips of people who had come here to work and live. They then wrote letters home to their families in the Caribbean, imaging that they too had made the journey on Empire Windrush to the UK.
