Jubilee Celebrations!
Everyone has enjoyed finding out more about our Queen, preparing for our special Jubilee celebration and then sharing in a fantastic Jubilee picnic with the whole school. Everyone enjoyed their special picnic food, and lots of traditional games in the fresh air- have a look at the fun we had!
In Year 5, we made crowns, baked special Jubilee cakes and biscuits, made games and quizzes and also bookmarks.
Computing
We followed the Jubilee theme in DT this week. It was our last week of learning about how to use 2Design and Make, our 3D design software. We have been looking at how to adapt templates for nets as well as decorate our nets with patterns and images. Our final challenge this week was to bring all our skills together to make a Jubilee Biscuit Tin. We printed our nets and made them up as part of our Jubilee celebration day.
History
This week we found out about Sir Walter Raleigh, once a favourite of Queen Elizabeth I who ended up imprisoned in the Tower of London and beheaded by King James I. We made Tudor puppets of different contemporaries of Sir Walter Raleigh and imagined what they would think about him. For some people he was a hero; for others, he was a pirate and invader. We had a lot of fun creating Tudor outfits for our dolls, or finding out what different people from around the world wore at the time, like Native Americans. Check them out!
