Year 5 has started off with tremendous learning about traditional tales, explanation texts, place value, addition and subtraction, Space, North America, Kodu and learning the Haka dance…We cannot wait for the last week of learning before a much deserved break!
This half term, Year 5 have been busy becoming computer programmers using the software Kodu. We have been able to create our own world in the program following specific coding instructions and deciding what we would like our Kodu to do. It has been challenging but fun learning how to code!
The last few weeks in class PE lessons, we have been collaborating in our dance groups to practise our Haka dance in our groups and will perform it to both classes on Tuesday. The Haka is a traditional, ceremonial Maori cultural dance performed by a group involving vigorous movements, facial expressions and the stamping of the feet with rhythmically shouted sounds to convey emotion and meaning. We have had a lot of fun going out of our comfort zone to create our group Haka.
