We have had a brilliant half term of everything PE, School Sport and Physical Activity since our return to school.
Physical Education
EYFS – have made an excellent start to their PE journey at Samuel Lucas. We have been focusing on our fundamental movement and travelling skills through a range of activities, while also learning about safety and behaviour during lesson time. Well done everyone!
Year 1 – have worked their way through a Ball Skills unit where our focus has been on using our feet to dribble, pass and receive a ball while working as an individual and in a pair or group. We have now moved onto a Health and Wellbeing unit where we are focusing on improving our agility, balance and co-ordination.
Year 2 – have also worked their way through a Ball Skills unit where our focus has been on using our feet to dribble, pass and receive a ball while working as an individual and in a pair or group. We have also completed a Health and Wellbeing unit where we are focused on improving our agility, balance and co-ordination. We are currently working through a Ball Skills unit where we have been using our hands to dribble, bounce, control, pass and receive a ball.
Year 3 – we have worked our way through Game Sense and Tag Rugby units where we have applied our skills into small sided game activities. We are currently working on a Basketball unit where we are developing our possessional skills. We have also been putting a big emphasis on respect and teamwork.
Year 4 – have been developing their Tag Rugby and Basketball skills so far in the Autumn Term. We have now started a Gymnastics unit that is centred around the topic of Bridges where we will learn to develop and create bridges both on and off the apparatus.
Year 5 – have worked through Tag Rugby and Basketball units so far in the Autumn Term with an increased emphasis on tactics and officiating games. We are currently developing our Netball skills with upcoming lessons considering tactics and positions.
Year 6 – have worked their way through Tag Rugby and Basketball units while also attending swimming lessons at Hitchin swimming pool.
Physical Activity
We are continuing enrichment on Friday afternoons in the hope that the weather can be kind in the winter months. Classes are making use of ‘Active 10’ breaks during the day to help stimulate the brain and contribute towards their learning environment.
We are also very lucky to have ‘Craze of the week’ starting in school this week with a variety of activities planned and equipment that can be used.
School Sport
Football:
Girls
Wix Cup
1st Round – Wilshere Dacre 0 – 12 Samuel Lucas
Quarter Final – St.Andrews 0-7 Samuel Lucas
The semi final will take place in January, well done so far girls!
League Fixtures
Whitehill 0 – 5 Samuel Lucas
A Team and B team
A Team Wix Cup Quarter Final:
Samuel Lucas 0-0 Highover (Highover won 2-1 on penalties)
A tight game which could have gone either way was decided by a penalty shootout. Never a nice way to finish a tie but I was really pleased with the sportsmanship shown at the end after a difficult result. Unlucky boys!
Whitehill B 5-0 Samuel Lucas B
A difficult match for some of our Year 5 and 6 footballers but it hopefully served as a good experience to represent the school and one that will benefit them moving forward.
Netball:
St.Andrews A 11 – 2 Samuel Lucas A (League)
St.Andrews B 1 – 3 Samuel Lucas B
Weston A 3 – 8 Samuel Lucas A (League)
Samuel Lucas A 9-8 Ickleford A (League)
Some excellent performances from our Netballers in recent weeks. Mrs.McNish and I have been very impressed with your teamwork and how you have transferred your skills into the matches. Well done all!
Table Tennis:
On Monday 16th October our Year 6 boys and girls travelled to Hitchin Boys School to participate in the NHSSP Table Tennis tournament.
Both teams performed admirably with the boys finishing in 2nd place and the girls finishing in 6th. I was really impressed girls with how you improved and developed over the course of your matches.
Well done everyone for a fantastic start to the year!
