There is a busy half term ahead in the world of PE, school sport and physical activity following the Christmas break.
PE
EYFS – Will continue to develop working on our core movement skills whilst being introduced to ball skills using both our hands and feet. We will also be putting an emphasis on working with others either as pairs or in small groups.
Year 1 – Have started work on a gymnastics unit that is centred around wide, narrow and curled positions, balances and/or movements as well as considering what it means to be safe in gymnastics.
Year 2 – are working on a gymnastics unit centred around linking movements, shapes and balances both on and off the apparatus. This will lead into putting a sequence together towards the end of the unit.
Year 3 – will also be starting a gymnastics unit that focuses on symmetry and asymmetry. As we work through the unit we will apply our symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes onto the apparatus before putting a sequence together.
Year 4 – will be focusing on bridges in their gymnastics lessons where they will apply their work onto the apparatus before creating a sequence for performance.
Year 5 – have started their gymnastics lessons with a focus on counter balance and counter tension. After developing their understanding of the two aspects the children will create a sequence on the apparatus for performance.
Year 6 – are working on a unit of dance that is themed around the story of the Titanic. They will look at the differences between the social classes on the ship, the impact with the iceberg and the relationships between the characters in their performance.
School Sport
