Hello from Lilac and Willow!
What a fun week we have had in Reception.
This week:
Thank you so much for helping your children with their ‘Summer Treasure Hunt’ activities. It is lovely to see how excited the children are to share their treasures. We have really enjoyed getting to know the children more this week and we have seen their confidence grow as they become familiar and settled at school.
We have been enjoying lots of listening activities as part of teaching phase one phonics. The children are working hard to develop their listening skills and be able to identify and recollect the differences between sounds, and hearing all the sounds in simple words.
We also love listening to songs and nursery rhymes throughout our day in Reception. If you and your children would like to sing any of these at home, please follow the link below. BBC Nursery Rhymes We have been focusing on counting songs to help with early maths skills.
Next week:
- In Phonics we will begin teaching phase 2 phonics, in line with our Monster Phonics Scheme. This includes introducing them to the graphemes: s, a, t and p and high frequency words: a, at, as.
- In Maths we will be looking at matching and sorting objects.
- We will be having an afternoon snack time and we ask that you provide a healthy snack for your child to have for the afternoon. This can be a piece of fruit, breadsticks or something similar. We kindly ask you not to send in yogurts, cereal bars or anything with chocolate.
- All reception children will be starting full time next week. the school day starts at 8:45am and the school day finishes at 3:15pm. Please be prompt for drop off and pick up. Any late arrivals will have to through the office and we kindly request that you collect the reception children first before getting older siblings as it is harder for the younger ones to wait for their grown ups.
Supporting your child at home:
- As we will be enjoying our school lunches in the dinner hall from Monday, using cutlery and a tray, please help your child to practise using a knife and fork.
- Encourage your child to ask questions that start with a question word e.g. who, what, when, where, why and how.
- If your child is asked a question, encourage them to give some details e.g. “I got the toy on holiday with my family.”
Any other information:
- PE lessons will now be starting for Reception children from Wednesday 4th October. This means that PE kit will not be required to be worn to school on a Wednesday until that date.
- At Samuel Lucas we are a Healthy School. Just a reminder that chocolate snacks, sweets and flavoured squash are not suitable for school packed lunches thank you and no nuts- even if the packaging says it may contain traces. We have children with severe allergies in school. If your child is having a packed lunch, they will also need to bring in their own drink.
Thank you for your continued support, have a lovely weekend.
