Hello from Lilac and Willow, we have certainly had a busy week!
This week:
We spent the week learning some familiar nursery rhymes which were: Baa Baa Black Sheep, Down in the Jungle, Row Incy Wincy Spider, Row Row Your Boat & Two little Dickie Birds. As well as learning these nursery rhymes, the children had a go at creating their own alternatives. Why not ask your child which animal was washing their clothes Down in the Jungle or which two little animals flew away?
In maths, we were learning about number bonds to 5. Number bonds are pairs of numbers that add together to make a given number. We started the week singing 5 little speckled frogs and 5 little men in a flying saucer to help support our learning. Then throughout the week, the children have been using bean bags, multilink and numicon to help them find different ways to make 5. Why not ask your child if they can show you different ways to make 5 using real life objects e.g. 2 different coloured grapes?
In phonics, we have learnt the sound ss. As well as revisiting and reviewing all of the sounds we’ve learnt so far this year, we’ve continued working hard with our blending and segmenting. In PE, Mr Smith continued looking at take off, flight and landing as part of gymnastics. This time, he challenged the children to introduce a balance to their movement. Why not ask the children to show you various balances during their “flight”? In Music, the children really impressed myself and Mrs Footer with how well they’re learning their wriggly nativity songs.
Next week:
- In Phonics, we will be learning the sounds j, v and w.
- In Maths, we will be combining 2 groups to make a total.
- We will be celebrating Thanksgiving as part of our Autumn Festivals.
- We will be getting ready for our Reception Reverse Advent.
Any other information:
- RECEPTION CLASS OUTCOME – Throughout the year, every year group in the school has opportunities for families to come into school to share and enjoy all of the children’s learning; these are known as Class Outcomes. It is also a great chance for the children to talk to you about how they have learnt the things they have. Our outcome takes place across both Lilac and Willow, so families are encouraged to visit both classrooms. Outcome is on WEDNESDAY 27TH NOVEMBER at 2:15pm. Please come in via the School Office. It will last until approximately 3pm. Please feel free to arrive and leave anytime during the outcome. Once you’ve visited, please wait outside for your child at the end of school as normal. If you’re able to come it would be great to see as many of you as possible.
- NATIVITY COSTUMES – Thank you to those of you who have already given us your child’s costumes. Please could you make sure that these are in a named bag. If you have any issues regarding your child’s costume, please feel free to speak to us.
We hope you have a great weekend.
Mrs Fisher and Mr French.
