We’ve had another lovely week in reception this week.
We continued with our People and Places topic and had two parents in to talk about living in France and Spain. Our focus during our learning time has been on maps, talking about the difference between a town, a city and a country. Our book of the week has been Martha Maps it Out by Leigh Hodgkinson. The children have been creating some wonderful maps of their own and sharing what they know about different countries they have visited.
In Phonics, we have introduced the new digraph ‘oo’ as in ‘cool’ and ‘oo’ as in ‘wood’ as well as the digraph ‘ow’ as in ‘cow’. We continue to practise our tricky words and reading these in sentences, as well as applying them to writing.
In Maths we have been learning about one more and one less up to 10 and the composition of numbers up to 8.
Next week
- We will continue our People and Places topic with a focus on a colder climate. We have parents coming in to talk about Canada, Switzerland and traveling in a campervan. We look forward to these parent talks. A big thank you to all those who have volunteered their time to come in to talk about either a country or an occupation.
- In phonics we will be learning the digraphs ‘ee’ as in ‘tree’ and ‘ur’ as in ‘fur’
- In maths, we will be learning doubling and odd and even numbers.
Have a great weekend,
Mrs Fisher and Mrs Murrell
