Hello from Lilac and Willow, what a fun week we’ve had this week!
This week:
Continuing our theme of animals, the children were finding out all about different zoo animals. We talked about whether or not we had visited the zoo and if we had, what animals did they see? The children shared facts and information they knew about the various zoo animals. We looked at books and the internet to help us gather information. The children then had the opportunity to practising their letters and sounds to try and write simple information sentences about zoo animals. Can your child share a fact with you that they learnt about a zoo animal?
In maths, we have been continuing our learning about measuring. This time, the children were looking at measuring weight and we started the week by using lots of important vocabulary to help us compare the size of different objects. The children were very keen to use the bucket scales and where working hard to make sure that their measuring was accurate. Ask you child if they remember the following words:
In phonics, we recapped some previously taught digraphs. We then used these digraphs to help us segment and blend simple words e.g. chop, ship, boat, rain, feed. The children were working very hard practising their letter formation. We use letter families to help support the children in their learning. Why not get your child to write 3 letters from each of the 4 letter families:
In PE, the children continued with their animal dance routines with Mr Smith. This week we added 2 new animals: giraffe and beetle. They are working very hard to put together the routine by keeping in time to the music.
In music we celebrated Chinese New Year with the percussion instruments. Each instrument represented something from the new celebrations.
Next week:
- We will be finding out all about sea creatures and learning about what life is like under the sea.
- In maths, we will be reading the story ‘One is a snail, Ten is a crab: a counting feet book’ by April and Jeff Sayre to consolidate our counting skills and learn how to solve problems.
- In Phonics, we will learning the following digraph: or, igh, ur and ow.
Any other information:
- JUNK MODELLING – Thank you so much for your kind donations for junk modelling. We require continuous supplies as the children access junk modelling all day everyday.
- MUD KITCHEN & STAGE AREA – The children absolutely love using our mud kitchen (as you can probably tell by their clothes). We would really appreciate any second hand saucepans, pots or kitchen utensils such as masher, ladles and large spoons so that more children can access this area throughout the day. If we have enough, we would also like to create an area by our outdoor stage full of homemade percussion instruments. Any help greatly appreciated.
Have a brilliant weekend!
