Hello from Willow and Lilac class,
What a wonderful week we’ve had. The sun has been shining and the children have been very engaged and busy in their learning. Our theme this week has been learning all about life cycles. It’s been fun to watch the tiny caterpillars grow over the week and today they have all turned into chrysalises ready to morph into butterflies. Lots of the children have made links between the caterpillar life cycle and the hen life cycle that we learnt about earlier this term. We also looked at how a frog becomes a frog. The children have created some fantastic artwork and non-fiction writing about caterpillars and butterflies.
In Phonics this week, we heard the Monster Phonics version of The Enormous Turnip. The children used the story to look at clusters of sounds including ‘str’ in strap and ‘scr’ in scratch. We also continued to use the story to look at compound words. A compound word is when two smaller words are put together to make a larger word.
In Maths, we have been looking again at number bonds to 10 and the children are becoming more secure with this.
Next Week
As part of our ‘What a Wonderful World’ topic, we will be learning about the ocean. The book of the week will be Commotion in the Ocean by Giles Andreae. We will be learning about habitats in the ocean and the types of animals that live there. We will also be talking about the human impact on the ocean and how plastic pollution effects these habitats and the animals that live there.
In Phonics, we will be practising some ccvcc words as well as the tricky words.
In Maths, we will be learning about sharing into groups.
Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine.
