Hello from Willow and Lilac Classes. We hope you have had a good week. Thank you to everyone who was able to make open evening. It was really lovely to see so many faces. We hope you all enjoyed seeing the learning that was displayed.
This Week
We started the week by reflecting on our school trip and the learning we did on transport last week. We then linked this to space travel and the solar system, which the children have been very interested in this year. We looked at hot and cold planets. We read The Smeds and the Smoos by Julia Donaldson and we designed our own planets.
We also looked at the artist Piet Mondrian and talked about how the colours made us feel. We talked about hot and cold colours and introduced the children to the colour wheel then made our own abstract art using warm and cool colours.
In Phonics this week we read the Monster Phonics version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears again to help to consolidate our learning from throughout the year. It was lovely to see how much progress the children have made since September with their reading and writing – well done Reception!
In Maths, we practised and consolidated the skills we’ve learnt so far this year by solving problems. Our first problem to solve involved three animal friends playing a bean bag toss game and we had to work out how much they scored. We then read a story called the Pattern Fish and looked for patterns. The children then had to come up with their own patterns.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the sunshine!
