A Reception Class Post

Reception, Week 2, Spring 1.

Hello from Lilac and willow class. We have had lots of fun in Reception this week exploring the ice and the learning opportunities that the cold weather has brought.

Thank you to all the parents who have come in over the last two weeks to talk about their jobs. The children have been interested to hear what grown-ups do all day and it has supported the childrenā€™s language development with asking questions, recalling information and finding things out.

This week we have focused on an ā€˜under the seaā€™ theme, after a marine biologist and a captain of a ship came to talk to the children. The children have enjoyed creating small world sea scenes, learning about the work of Sir David Attenborough and we have introduced two new pet fish into each classroom!

In maths this week we have been ā€˜finding the totalā€™ by combining two small groups, either by subitising each part and then counting each of the objects or subitising the parts and the whole.

In phonics, we have learnt the new digraphs th (as in thumb) th (as in with) and ng (as in bang). The children have been practising the tricky words: yes, are, too, with, her as well as revisiting the tricky words we learnt last term. The tricky words from last term have come home in paper form for you to practise with your child. Please practise them until they are secure with sight-reading them.

Next Week:

We are looking forward to more talks from some of the parents. We will have a ā€˜people who help usā€™ theme next week, to link in with the jobs that the parents are coming to talk to us about.

Other information:

Please continue to read with your child daily. Please record in their reading records when you have read.

Please ensure your child is coming to school with appropriate clothing for the weather.

Thank you for your continued support, Mrs Fisher, Mrs Murrell and the Reception Team.
