A Year 3 Class Post

Remembrance week

On Sunday, it was Remembrance day and we have been learning about what Remembrance day is and how important it is to commemorate the men and women who died in the line of duty in the war. We participated in many activities about peace such as:

  • We created free verse poems about peace on doves and made our own poppy using tissue paper and PVA glue on cardboard.
  • We read the Christmas Truce and discussed the significance of the ceasefire on Christmas day representing a symbolic moment of peace during a time of devastation.
  • Our Reciprocal Reading text ‘In Flander’s Field’ is a poem written by a soldier about the tragic loss of his fellow soldiers and how the poppies continue to blow over the field where his fellow soldiers had fallen and been buried. We discussed the meaning of the poem and why it is so significant now to read 100 years after the ending of World War 1.
  • Our Show and Tell theme was about Remembrance and many class members had precious belongings and stories from the War from our grand parents. We also made some songs, dances and raps about the peace and the War.
  • We also created amazing home learning black board creative pieces about Remembrance and Peace.
