A Year 6 Class Post

Return after half term!

Year six have returned after a lovely, well-deserved break and are already back in the swing of things!

Maths has seen us converting units of measurement, including miles to km and imperial to metric, as well as reminding us about perimeter and area of rectangles and compound shapes. Next week, we shall apply this knowledge as we learn the formulae for finding the area of triangles and parallelograms.

In english, we have started to read The Children of the King by Sonya Hartnett and we have already produced some lovely persuasive pieces on the subject of evacuation. We now also understand the meaning of the word propaganda.

In our Jigsaw lessons, we have considered a number of scenarios and acted as “Agony Aunts” to give advice in groups.

As scientists, we have deepened our understanding of the circulatory system by identifying the function of the heart, veins and arteries.

In history, we have considered the various forms of human activity within the desert biome and have demonstrated our understanding by writing persuasive leaflets.

Our orienteering lessons have continued as we have used maps to navigate our way around the school grounds to reach specific locations.

The school home learning has World Book Day as its main theme and we are looking forward to a day of fun activities next Thursday.
