A Year 6 Class Post

Science Week and more pizzas!

What a busy week we’ve had! One of the many highlights was making our own pizzas from scratch to compare with the shop-bought bases we had on the first day back after the lockdown return. The children were able to apply a wealth of skills during these sessions: measuring, weighing, kneading, rolling, presenting and all the social skills which went hand-in hand with this great activity. The end results were, we are reliably informed, delicious!

In Science we all conducted experiments to find which type of biscuit is best for dunking and designed our own Lab Coats. Both of these activities were carried out across the school too. Both year 6 classes voted to take a virtual trip to Chester Zoo and they also created a 3D optical illusion of their hand.

In Spruce, we also visited creatures of the oceans through a virtual “Deep Sea Dive”, whereas Beech opted for an exploration of Mars through the 3D glasses they made.  All the children contributed so well to the activitities so it was very hard for us to choose two scientists of the week. But, after consideration, Alexa and Jack from Beech and Keira and Tom from Spruce were honoured with a certificate.

Amelie-Su in Spruce won the school prize of a lovely book for her answers to the photo competition: very well done!

Many thanks to Miss Mai for organising this fun-packed week.

Writers of the week were Mia and Anika and maths Whizzes were William from Beech and William from Spruce!

Thank you very much to the SLPA for organising the crisps and drinks for our film session and also for the Egg Hunt prizes; both activities were very well-received.

We’d like to take this opportunity to wish you a happy and peaceful holiday.

Best wishes

Mr Burgess and Miss Shaw
