September PESSPA update

Sports Day
It was great to be able to run sports day (albeit very delayed!) I thought the children performed brilliantly and demonstrated lots of skills and qualities that we work through in our lessons. Thank you to our Year 6 children who were fantastic in their leadership roles in the afternoon. Well done everyone!
PE
Reception – have had their first two lessons and have been working through lots of core movements via some locomotion work including walking, skipping, balancing, climbing, jumping and landing. Well done for a brilliant start to PE at Samuel Lucas!
Years 1 and 2 have started the term focusing on team building units that incorporate skills such as inclusion, communication, teamwork, problem solving and strategy forming.
Years 3 – 6 have started the term working on a football unit. In lower key stage 2 we have focused on consolidating, combining and applying our skills into a variety of games. In upper key stage 2 we have considered how we will work in games tactically, as well as working on leadership and officiating roles. The unit will finish with an intra house tournament before the children move to their next unit.
Intra-House Football Results
Year 3 Winners – Murray 17 points
Year 4 Winners – Pendleton 20 points
Year 5 Winners – MacArthur 17 points
Year 6 Winners – Brownlee/Farah 11 points
Congratulations to MacArthur and Brownlee who are our overall house football winners with 46 points!

Tag Rugby Festivals:
Two teams of players from Year 6 and one team of players from Year 4 attended two separate Tag Rugby Festivals this week (October 3rd) hosted by the North Herts Schools Sports Partnership and Saracens Rugby.
It was a great opportunity for the children to showcase their rugby skills from our lunchtime club against other schools. There were also lots of chances to demonstrate some key values such as teamwork, respect, resilience and determination.
Both year groups had brilliant days and represented the school in the correct manner. Well done everyone!
Well done everybody for a fantastic start to the year!
