A Reception Class Post

Spring 2, week 3

This week:

Our story of the week has been The Gingerbread Man. The children have got to know the story,  really well through activities and storytelling. Today, as part of our Red Nose Day activities, we decorated some gingerbread men and gave them a red cherry nose! This week has also been science week. We have done several experiments throughout the week, including an apple tasting session which then led to an experiment as to what would happen to the core of an apple over time. The children have been observing the changes to the apple core each day. The theme of British Science Week this week has been ‘Time’. We linked this to the seasons and changes we see over time in the environment. We also learnt about the history of clocks and telling the time.

In Phonics, we have learnt the ‘igh’ sound and the high frequency words: like, when, little, what.

In Maths, we have been learning about doubling and halving.

In our PSHE Jigsaw lessons we have been talking about our school rules and ways we can be kind to each other.

Next Week:

In Phonics, we will be learning the ‘air’ and ‘oi’ sounds, as well as practising the high frequency words; like, when, little, what, by.

In Maths, we will be practising odd and even numbers.

In Jigsaw, we will be learning about dental hygiene.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Murrell and Mrs Fisher
