Reading In Year 5

We love reading in Year 5!

We very much enjoyed our visit to Hitchin library last week, exploring new books, finding and showing our favourites to our class mates and even exploring the graphic novel section upstairs.

It was lovely to see how comfortable the children were choosing, reading and sharing books and their favourite stories.

Thanks also to our parent helpers who made the trip possible.

Also have a nosy at our reading corners. We regularly enjoy our class book selection, listen to book reviews and recommendations from each other and refresh the books that we have available.

Thank you for supporting us and your child’s reading through their reading records, making sure they have access to books and just talking to them about stories and their reading!

In class, we have used our recent reading to inspire us in our writing. This week, we have finished writing our own chapters of Varjak Paw, a story about a young cat ‘who must learn to fight’. We have explored how to create vivid settings, realistic, different characters and how to punctuate our dialogue accurately, and enjoyed reading each other’s vivid and detailed writing.
