Our Learning > Our Classes

A Year 2 Class Post

Summer 1 Week 5!

We have had yet another super week in Year 2 with lots of exciting learning going on!

As mathematicians, we have embedded our addition and subtraction skills by practising the column method. We have been so impressed with how the children have remembered and consolidated this – they are super stars!

As writers, the children have enjoyed independent writing this week. They have been inspired by mini film clips which have sparked off their imaginations and enabled them to write freely with confidence. The children particularly enjoyed writing about the dragon and the marshmallows and came up with some fantastic verbs, adverbs and adjectives to describe what happened in their story.

As scientists, we have continued learning about plants, this time focusing on the life cycle of a seed. We also continued using our measuring skills to see how much our seeds had grown since being planted!

As designers, we have been busy starting our Pavlova Project! We have explored and evaluated different types of fruit by using our senses to decide which fruit we want to use in our pavlovas. We also developed our food preparation skills by using the bridge or claw technique when cutting. It was fantastic to see the children chop and slice safely and confidently in small focus groups.
