What a brilliant start to the year we have had. The children are doing really well and settling in beautifully!
Maths – As mathematicians, we have started year 2 maths by practicing our place value skills. We have used resources such as dienes, bead strings, part whole models, numicon and place value charts to count and partition numbers up to 100. We have practised how to write numbers to 100 in both numerals and words this week!
Writing- We were introduced to our first writing text study ‘Charlie Cook’s favourite book’, we have revisited a range of writing skills such as using capital letters, using finger spaces and full stops. We challenged ourselves by using conjunctions and changing tense.
Spelling- We have two of our year 2 spelling rules already: ‘dge’ and ‘g’, we have loved learning the songs and learnt how to use our skimming and scanning skills to find our spelling words on a word search.
Art- As artists, we have explored different drawings from artists to take inspiration on their mark making techniques. We created our own keyhole to use to closely examine patterns in artworks then have a go at mark making the patterns in the artworks. We loved exploring and experimenting as artists today!
We hope your children enjoy reading their first year 2 reading book. Please encourage your child to read to and with you every day and on Fridays your child will get a sticker if they have 5 reading logs so remember to record each read! Enjoy!
Well done on completing two weeks of year 2 already, Mrs Lazzara and Mrs Reed are so proud of you all!
We look forward to another fun week next week!
