Over the past week, Year 4 have been looking at Remembrance Day and the meaning behind it. We have been thinking about those who fought and worked hard during different battles and wars to help bring peace to our country.
We made peace poppies to commemorate all the people who have lost their lives in different wars. To do this, we used tissue paper to create the white petals that are associated with peace poppies and mounted them onto a green stem. Finally, we placed a green circle into the middle of our petals with the word peace written upon it.
We have also been looking at WWI in particular, as this year marked 100 years since the end of the war. We continued our theme of peace by looking at the book ‘The Christmas Truce’. This book focuses on the temporary truce called by German and English soldiers on Christmas Day, 1914. We looked at the book and a clip that depicted the truce and then wrote newspaper articles from 1914 reporting what had happened during the truce.
