A huge congratulations to our Year 6 Basketball team who came away from the NHSSP tournament on Friday (3rd) afternoon as district champions!
We were placed in group B with four other schools with a top two place required to make the semi final. The format is different to other mixed events with the boys playing the first half and the girls playing the second half to give an overall score.
The team put in a quite amazing afternoon of basketball, winning all four group games to top the group.
Our group games finished as follows:
Hartsfield 2 – 12 Samuel Lucas
Samuel Lucas 13 – 0 Whitehill Yellow
Samuel Lucas 10 – 0 Lordship Farm
Samuel Lucas 11 – 0 William Ransom
This meant a place in the Semi Final against Whitehill Blues. A very tense and close first half saw us trailing to a free throw 0-1. An outstanding second half performance from the girls with eleven points scored meant the team won the match and secured a place in the final.
Whitehill Blue 1 – 11 Samuel Lucas
The final was against St.Marys who had also won all of their fixtures to get to the final so we knew it was going to be a very tough game. The boys set things rolling by going 4-0 ahead before a basket before the whistle meant the girls coming on at 4-2. Another brilliant second half performance saw a further four baskets scored which meant victory!
Samuel Lucas 12 – 2 St.Marys
A brilliant afternoon of basketball from all of the children scoring 69 points and only conceding 5. It means the team will represent North Hertfordshire at the County Finals in St.Albans at the end of the month!
Well done everyone!
