What a brilliant week, Year 1!
In English this week, we have been continuing our work on recount writing. We used time connectives to write about a fitness adventure that we went on and also wrote about our morning routine. We read Rosie’s Walk by Pat Hutchins and verbally retold it to our talk partners. Finally, we wrote a first person recount of Rosie’s Walk, using the time connectives that we have been focussing on.
We were brilliant mathematicians this week! We looked at number bonds to 10, writing number sentences. We also compared two number sentences with our ‘crocodile’ inequality symbols.
In Science this week, we continued our learning about materials. We looked at the properties of materials and used our Material-Object Spinner to talk about which options would be sensible or not! For example, why would we not make a kettle out of chocolate?
We have looked at the life of Florence Nightingale in history this week. We compared hospitals before Florence Nightingale and after her. We sorted her timeline and discussed her life using key artefacts from it. We also drew portraits of her.
In art, we used our observational skills to look at parts of a painting. We discussed the colours used and used our detective skills to work out what the picture would be like as a whole. We then examined the whole picture which was Renoir’s Umbrellas. In the next couple of weeks we will be learning the skill of creating tones and tints with paint. Using these skills to recreate sections of the painting.
Finally, this Friday we had a school-wide Wellbeing day. We took part in yoga, mindful colouring, made friendship bracelets and talked about the similarities and differences between ourselves and our friends during our Jigsaw learning.
Next Week:
- We will be doing addition in maths. (adding money)
- In English we will be looking at Repetitive Phrases, reading the book Monkey and Me.
- In History we are going to be exploring the life of Mary Seacole.
- In PE we will be continuing working on ball skills using our feet and ball skills using our hands.
