This final week of Autumn 2 was full of group collaboration in PSHE, PE and Science!
In PE, we concluded our communication and tactics unit by practising the communication skills we have developed over the last 7 weeks in playing Code Breakers where we had to work as a team to solve a problem. Each team had a team leader that created a pattern on one side of the bench and the rest of the team had to have a go at matching the pattern without looking and by only watching the team leader’s actions. At first, we found it hard as we could not speak and had to play close attention to the team leader’s actions. However, after a few rounds, we found it easier when all team members were focused in watching the leader’s actions and knowing exactly what to do when it was our own turn. It was a successful game and we enjoyed it so much we had a class competition! Even Miss Mai joined in however was not as fast as us as she did not have the same practise as we did.
Our final Space lesson allowed us to visit back to the 1400s and 1500s when the two great Scientists Copernicus and Galileo lived and learnt about how they come about with their Heliocentric theory on how the Sun was the centre of the solar system and all planets orbited the Sun. To show our learning, we all wrote a playscript where Galileo and Copernicus were in a courtroom discussing their theories and evidence of what they discovered! With the help of our table peers, we then performed some of our play scripts out! It was very entertaining and great to imagine what life was like when society did not believe Science. We discussed how fortunate we are to live in a world where we have fast access to information about Space!
We all deserve a half term break after a busy 8 weeks of fun learning! It has been great to be back at school and we are excited for some time to rest and relax. Well done Year 5!
