It has been lovely to see everyone again after the half term break.
We have started some exciting new projects as well as completing the learning journey for others.
In English, we are exploring poetry. We started the week sharing some Joseph Coelho poems especially written for performing and reading some war poetry in preparation for Rememberance. We are carrying out a focussed study of ‘The Rainmaker Danced’ by John Agard and illustrated by Satoshi Kitamura. We have been learning more about the poet and illustrator and working out what the typical features of their style might be. We have been enjoying some thought-provoking poems from Agard and thinking about how poetry can use structure and pattern to raise questions, sound good and unlock our originality by opening up more choices to us as writers. We also explored a ‘gallery’ of pages from the anthology and have been thinking about how Kitamura approaches illustrating particular poems and ideas.
In Art we have produced our final pieces using a range of media and the skills we practised before half term. The children have used acrylics, watercolour, pastels and pencil to create images of the local area and beyond. They have shown increasingly levels of independence in preparing their tables for art, managing themselves and their materials appropriately and in making individual choices as artists. Their final pieces are varied, interesting and well composed. It’s been a fantastic project and the children seem to have enjoyed it and grown significantly as artists.
