Wow! What a day we have had!
From the moment the day started, we could tell today would be a fun, creative day.
Many of the children had arrived in a costume representing their favourite book. We were very impressed with the range of characters we had in each class. Clearly the children love to read lots of different stories!
We were utterly amazed by the level of effort the children had put into their black book homework (To bring in a potato as their favourite book character) and we are really proud of the children’s individual creative skills.
In class, we used the children’s books to get creative with our writing. Because the theme of World Book Day this year is “share your book.”, we asked the children to get into pairs and share their characters within one story. We had the BFG meet Harry Potter, Alex Rider meeting Joe Spud and Dennis the Menace meeting Dogman! The children worked hard to include their current writing targets of adding prepositions, conjunction and speech punctuation.
For our Maths, we solved a puzzle-Whose book has the largest perimeter? Here we used our predicting and measuring skills to measure the perimeter of each of our books and order them from smallest to largest. We were quite surprised by some books!
All in all- a booktastic day!
(Thank you to all of the parents and carers who helped support their children with their creativity and reading skills in preparation for today!)
