Thursday was World Book Day and year 6 have been up to lots of exciting activities!
World Book Day was part of or weeklong celebration of all things reading and writing. Over the course of the week, we have been lucky enough to be visited by local author Nizrana Farook, dressed up as our favourite book characters, wrote poems inspired by the Waterstones Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho and had an assembly about books and how they inspire us.
On Tuesday, local author Nizrana Farook visited. She has written three books; her first being The girl who stole an elephant. On Tuesday, she came into our school and did an assembly where she shared some of her top writing tips and also gave us a sneak preview of her new book that is soon to be released! She then did a book signing in our school library.
On Thursday, children in year 6 created poems based on a video we watched in class by Joseph Coelho, where he talked about his love for books and how to write your own poem. Later, we also wrote another poem using personification to impersonate an object of choice. Thursday was also world book day, so we dressed up as our favourite book character ( if you can even choose one!) and had an assembly where we talked about our favourite books and what makes them so special. Mr Burgess (who dressed up as Mr Twit) also read us a short snippet of the book ‘Holes’.
Our class Wooden Spoons displays look great and we would like to thank Hattie, Genevieve and Audrey from the School Council for helping to run a very successful Book Swap on Friday.
We hope everyone has enjoyed world book day and is looking forward to next year!
