A Year 1 Class Post

Year 1 Autumn 2 Week 5

The children in Year 1 have demonstrated their learning fantastically this week, well done everyone!  Here is a quick summary of what they have been learning.

As writers, the children have been learning about verbs.  They learnt that verbs are important when writing because they are used to describe an action, state or occurrence.  The children were given a series of pictures and they had to write super sentences about that verb.

As mathematicians, the children were building upon their knowledge of addition and subtraction and looking at ways of creating fact families.  A fact family is a group of calculations that are created using the same three numbers.  Here is a fact family that uses the numbers 3, 7 and 10.

As Historians, the children were learning to distinguish between the past and the present.  We had several images from throughout history which then children then had to sort into groups (past and present) and also give reasons explaining why they made their choices.

In Music, the children have continued working incredibly hard practising their songs and lines from the Nativity ‘A Midwife Crisis’.  I know they will continue practising, doing their best and then be ready to share with you all very soon.

In RE, we spent time learning about the significance of Advent to Christians and the children discovered that it marks the countdown to Christmas as Christians to celebrate the birth of Jesus.  We also learnt about the symbolism of many traditions at Advent such as wreaths, Christingles and calendars.

Finally this week the children spent time in their houses on Thursday afternoon taking part in a school wide Crafternoon.  It was brilliant to see the children really enjoying spending time with older children from their respective houses, as well producing some very high quality artwork related to Winter and the theme of Diversity.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
