A Year 3 Class Post

Year 3 – Egyptian Day

We’ve been learning about the Egyptian’s today.

As we came in this morning we wrote like an Egyptian and used Hieroglyphs to create a cartouche with our names on.

As a year group we went to think about how we learn about the past. We discussed the question: How do we know what life was like for Ancient Egyptians?Ā  After doing this we went outside and looked at secondary sources and recorded what we thought that taught us about the Ancient Egyptians.

Make up, paper, the mirror and even bowling are just a few of the things the Egyptians invented! The children learnt about these inventions, then pickedĀ  their 3 favourite inventions and shared what they had learnt.

After that, we explored the ancient Gods and Goddesses of Egypt. We used what we knew to create a Top Trump card which we used to battle other members of Year 3.

In the afternoon, Ash class learnt about the Great Pyramid of Giza and Elm class mummified a satsuma to learn about the mummification process. They will be completing the other activity at a later date.

If you want to try mummifying an orange at home: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zrcg2sg (Video is at the bottom of the page)

Thank you Year 3 its been a fantastic Day!
