A Year 4 Class Post

Year 4 Aut 1 Week 4

This week as writers, we have been learning about Roman Gods and Goddesses’. The children read fact files and inferred how these characters would act and what they would say. The wrote brilliant teacher reports on their god and write a descriptive poem about the goddess of love-Venus.

As mathematicians, we have been rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000! The children have learnt a fun rhyme to help them remember.

‘Five to nine- climb the vine! Zero to four- slide to the floor!’

In RE, we have continued our learning around Hinduism. This week we looked at traditional Hindu temples (mandirs), we sketched and labelled similarities in the temples.

As historians this week, we became gladiators! We recreated the Colosseum in the classroom and had some fierce battles! The children learnt about different types of gladiators and how people would become gladiators. We also learnt why the Colosseum is such a well know landmark across the world.

In PE, we have begun our basketball unit. This week we were learning the chest pass and bounce pass.

As scientists, we learnt how the pitch of a sound can change by looking at different instruments and using elastic bands. The children found that changing the tension of the elastic bands changed the pitch.
