Our Learning > Our Classes

A Year 4 Class Post

Year 4 Summer 1 Week 1

We have had a brilliant first week back at school!

As writers, we have been exploring the text ‘Light on Cotton Rock’. We have used our descriptive writing skills to describe the setting of the night sky using similes and metaphors as well as inferring how the character would feel at different parts of the story.

As mathematicians, we have started brand new learning about decimals! We have learnt to understand the palace value of tenths and hundredths and can represent these numbers using place value counters. We have also learnt how to divide 2 digit numbers by 10 and 100.

As scientists, we have started our new topic of States of Matter. We learnt about the differences between liquids, solids and gases and used Cheerios to represent the particles in each of these.

As geographers, we have started our topic of Transport. We investigated different types of city transport and their pros and cons. We then created graphs to show which vehicles produced the most pollution per km.

As artists, we started our unit on sculptures. We explored the artist Claus Oldenburg and some of his large, soft sculptures of food.

In PE, we have continued our tennis learning and developed our rallies in tennis with forehand and backhand technique.
