A Year 4 Class Post

Year 4 Summer Term 2018 Overview

This summer term sees an exciting whole school project develop, based on one focus text, but encompassing much of the curriculum, with many opportunities for new learning experiences outside as well as inside!

In year 4 we are particularly excited by the opportunities to grow our own food, whilst producing what promises to be some outstanding writing.

In Geography, we will be learning about the water cycle and rivers. Our PE lessons will be focussing on dance and based on the water cycle too. To support our geographical skill development, in Computing, Year 4 are going to be meteorologists:  recording and predicting the weather and then presenting a weather forecast for the summer holidays. In History, we will be learning all about the Shang Dynasty and discovering what we can learn from Chinese artefacts. This will be influencing our art as we make Chinese scroll style paintings.

The summer term will be fun during Design & Technology, where we will be making (and tasting) savoury muffins in the kitchen.

Science will take us outside as much as possible to investigate changes of state e.g. the evaporation of a rain water puddle.

In English, we will be writing a wide range of genres, from explanations to poetry to some very persuasive advertising. We will also be working on fine-tuning our spelling strategies and our redrafting skills. We will continue to develop our reading skills, with a focus on written responses to texts, through formal comprehension.

We hope to be able to display many of the exciting things we plan to do during this busy term at our exhibition evening in July.
