Year 5 have been working really hard this week making their own toy vehicles for their DT project. Not only did they learn about the pulley system and how this affects the motion of their car, but they had to figure out how to actually get the vehicle moving by wiring the motor and battery and attaching them to the mechanical components.
There was frustration, puzzlement and delight as they built their machines, mixed in with a lot of resilience and perseverance as things inevitably didn’t work out as planned, or bits dropped off!
Each child, however, has now completed a working model, and some of the class have managed to bring their original designs to life by adding bodywork and other aesthetic parts to make theirs truly unique.

Aligning pulleys to wheels

Making the axle

Using the glue gun safely

Positioning the pulley system onto the motor

Checking the motor is driving the pulley

One of the brilliant designs
If you want to see any of the other finished products, you’ll have to come along to our outcome on Wednesday, 21st March at 1:45. Believe, me, it’s worth it – they are amazing.
