Year 5 have had a fantastic day with Mistress Cassandra, our History-off-the-Page leader who took us back in time to Ancient Greece. We became Athenians for the day and learnt lots of new skills such as mosaic making, stone carving (using soap) and writing on wax tablets in our best ancient Greek! We even learnt how to mix medicinal herbs to treat all the ailments our Greek citizens were suffering from, such as headaches and fever. We spread some gossip and shared news, visited the oracle to ask for advice and help, gave offering to the gods and some even paid for slaves to help them!
After lunch, we put on entertainment and dancing and were served food by our slaves. We’ve had a great day and the children have all gone home with their charms, herbs and mosaics. A great time was had by all, adults and children alike and a big thank you must go to the parents who offered their time to help with the day, dressed up and made it possible to offer so many activities during the morning. We couldn’t have done it without you.
