A Year 5 Class Post

Year 5 Spring Overview

Welcome back to Year 5. We are looking forward to an exciting and busy term with lots of new challenges. Since joining Year 5, it’s been a pleasure for me to see the children so enthusiastic and ready to learn. This term, we’ll be developing our Behaviour for Learning skills and working both independently and collaboratively on a range of activities and tasks.

In English, we will be exploring texts from our literary heritage, focusing on Hamlet and Macbeth. This will involve lots of active learning and drama to enable the children to get to grips with the language as well as having lots of opportunities to write. We will then be writing instructions, poems and persuasive texts linked to our theme and other curriculum areas.

In Maths we have been focusing on number and identifying efficient methods of working to solve calculations and word problems. We will then be developing our understanding of fractions, measure and geometry.

Our theme this term is ‘Building Kingdoms’. We are becoming History Detectives, exploring what artefacts and evidence tell us about the people from that time. We will be working on questioning and research skills in order to develop our understanding of the Anglo-Saxon and Viking periods in history.

We will also be creating collaborative Viking dances, learning about Solids, liquids and gases in Science and using artists’ work as stimuli for our own artwork using computer software. In PSHE our theme is Health and Wellbeing – we will be setting goals, considering how to make healthy choices, discussing our feelings and managing risk.

We are looking forward to sharing our learning with you in the Outcome on Thursday 30th March at 9.15am.
