Year 5 are already looking forward to learning about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, the reasons why they came to Great Britain, and what they got up to when they were here. Aspects of their daily lives will be discovered, including entertainment and their use of weaponry.
In science we shall be investigating different forces and conducting experiments to find out how to use these forces to our advantage, including recreating a simple Anglo-Saxon catapult. We shall then look at mechanisms such as levers, pulleys and gears, and the children will be able to design and make their own toy vehicle applying their new knowledge and skills in our D&T lessons.
In computing, the children will discover how to create tessellation patterns, and in art they will design their own Saxon and Viking-style knot pattern.
In English, they will develop their writing skills by composing their own mystery and suspense stories, supported by our recommended texts. Their reading and comprehension skills will continue to be developed throughout regular Reciprocal Reading sessions, and all their learning will be consolidated in the high quality home learning projects that they continuously deliver.
