The summer term is certainly going to be a very busy one in Year 6!
We will be consolidating our learning in maths, reading and writing during the run-up to SATs. The class will have the opportunity to revise individually, in groups and as a whole class. Regular research opportunities for our Isle of Wight trip will be interwoven into these sessions, from The Battle of Trafalgar to Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle, in preparation for our Great Adventure at the end of May!
In Science, Mrs Sewell will be teaching the class about Animals including humans and we will continue with Rising Stars and music lessons. In addition, we will start our whole-school Writing Project based on the book “Frog Belly Rat Bone.” During the week beginning April 16th, Year 6 will be using their artistic and horticultural skills to get the project off to a fine start!
The final week of the first half term will be spent on the Isle of Wight. The trip is always a firm favourite with the children and Mrs Thomas, Miss McArdle, Ms Thrussel and I are extremely pleased to be accompanying them. An Isle of Wight information evening will be held on Wednesday, 2nd May at 7.00pm.
During the second half term, classwork in Year 6 will be based around our experiences on the Isle of Wight and will include a wealth of cross-curricular skills and opportunities, including a free-choice of home learning project. In history, we will also be studying the ancient kingdom of Benin as well as considering, in DT, how structures can be made strong and stable.
The week beginning June the 4th will revisit our Writing Exhibition theme and the following week sees us offering our PE week.
On Wednesday 4th July, Year 6 participate in “Crucial Crew” held at Hitchin Fire Station and we will be holding our whole-school exhibition evening on Tuesday, 10th July from 4.00pm until 7.00pm.
