Today is Children in Need day. The children looked brilliant in their colourful clothes and have contributed to a very worthy cause. Thank you very much for your support.
Another week of varied learning: as scientists, we explored circuitry in small groups and were able to demonstrate how the brightness of a bulb can be affected by different factors.
As historians, we created some wonderful Aztec menus based on the sources we studied in class, and linking our learning to the farming and agriculture of the time.
Maths lessons have seen us exploring fractions as well as consolidating arithmetic skills and in PE we have completed our unit of work on Communication and Tactics, culminating in today’s “Capture the Flag” competitions.
Computing has seen us developing our skills with spreadsheets and in PSHE we considered various scenarios about who holds the power.
In today’s RE lessons we analysed various Christmas campaigns and reflected on their effectiveness when trying to convey the true meaning of Christmas.
Once again, the children have greatly impressed us with their writing and their understanding of different genres. Science-Fiction, fantasy, detective, horror, fairytale have all been studied in preparation for the children’s own creative sessions next week. “All Summer In A Day”, a short story by Ray Bradbury, proved extremely popular with both classes, dealing with the subject of bullying whilst set on Venus.
We are all delighted with the positive reports from the prospective parent tours this week; year 6 have really represented the school extremely maturely and enthusiastically.
Our singing with Mr Frowde on Wednesday was really beautiful and we are very much looking forward to sharing the results of all our hard work in a few weeks’ time.
