Newsletter – January 2018

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to a new term and Happy New Year to you all, it is lovely to see the children back in school ready to learn.

Congratulations

Well done to Ella Entwistle for passing her Grade 1 clarinet examination, Imogen Proctor and to Sadie Lait for passing their Grade 1 flute examinations. Also congratulations to Ben Shaw who passed his Grade 1 Tenor Horn exam with distinction.

HCL Catering

The HCL kitchen team had a visit from the local authority Environmental Health Officer and have been awarded top marks, a 5* grading, for food hygiene. Well done to our HCL kitchen team!

Parent Volunteers

If you have an hour or two to spare every week and would like to help out in school on a regular basis please contact Mrs Cosgrave in the school office. We are looking for volunteers, parents or grandparents, to help with reading and class activities. Regular volunteers will need to have a DBS check completed which is organised by the school, as part of our safeguarding processes.

Absences

When telephoning the school office to report that your child will be absent from school, please be specific as to the nature of any illness rather than saying a child is unwell. Can I remind parents that if your child has had sickness or diarrhoea or sickness (vomiting) they are not allowed to return to school until 2 clear days (48 hours) following the last bout. This policy will be strictly adhered to, to prevent other children becoming unwell.

Morning Routine

The door to the KS building and other classroom doors are closed and locked promptly at 8.55am for registration. If you arrive after this time, you must come to the school office to be registered. Please do not send your child to their classroom unattended if you arrive after 8.55am as they will not be able to access the building other than via the school office. For parents who take part in shared in reading in KS1 on a Tuesday and Friday morning, if you have siblings in other year groups please take these children to their classes first before you go to shared reading so that they are not late for registration.

Lost Property

Do you recognise any of these items? They are being looked after in the school office, please

come and collect if anything belongs to you!

Author Visit

This week we were really lucky to welcome an author to our school. Our Year 6 pupils have already met Richard Mayers when he told them about his Spikez book at a visit to The Priory School last year. Earlier this week he came in to school to tell the pupils in Years 1 and 2 about a new book he is writing – ‘The Hedgehog’s Full Moon Party’ which is an illustrated book aimed at younger children. The children really enjoyed hearing the story and Year 2 asked him some interesting questions about being an author. He also gave them some top tips which will help with their story writing.

Thanks to Richard for a great afternoon. Hopefully our children will be inspired to write their own stories which we can enter for the 500 word story competition… let’s find our own budding Samuel Lucas authors!
