Summer Circus 2018

On 23rd June, the big top came to Samuel Lucas! The SLPA organised for Happy’s Circus, a company that specialises in school events to put on a fabulous and funny circus featuring daring and hilarious acts for the whole family. It was a blisteringly hot day so there were lots of opportunities to sell plenty of cold drinks!
The event started at 1pm when gates opened so families could come early and grab a drink, snack and some raffle tickets.Children were kept amused with face painting, tattoos and various free games. At 2pm, everyone went in to the big top for part 1 of the circus which featured lots of fantastic acts (no animals, just very talented humans!). At half time, the SLPA sold more refreshments plus it was a chance to buy last minute raffle tickets – prizes included a wonderful circus-themed hamper, food blender (donated by =LV), various vouchers donated by local businesses plus wine, perfume, Saracens rugby top, large jar of sweets and toiletries. The winner of the top prize was Phil Vipond!
The circus ended at 4pm and everyone helped to clear away and allowed Happy’s to pull down their equipment with a great deal of efficiency.
We also tried out a new waste disposal plan as instigated by Tracey Banks of Less Waste Hitchin, who worked with Mr Mcadam to arrange for lots of extra bins to be placed around to separate general waste, recryclabkles, sweet wrappers and food waste.
The event was attended by around 450 people and made a whopping £2000 profit! A big thank you to the amazingly talented and hard-working SLPA for organising another fantastic event, to the parents that helped at the event, Mr Burgess for staying on site and being the First Aider and of course to Mr McAdam who ensured the site was safe and clean.
A great time was had by all!
