Have you spotted a dinosaur or two in the area? Or lots of children walking to school? All over Hertfordshire school children are on the march, enjoying and participating in the National Walk to School Week, which runs from 15 to 19 May 2017 supported by the Hertfordshire County Council Road Safety in Schools Team Roadsafety@hertfordshire.gov.uk A record number of primary schools have signed up, and children are walking or scooting to help the dinosaurs, Buster and Betsy, keep fit and active.
During the week, our friendly walking mascot dinosaur Buster is travelling from the Triassic Period in South America, all around the world. He is going along the time line to meet up with gorgeous Betsy. She is a relatively young pink dinosaur from the Cretaceous Period.
Walking to school helps make, and keep, children healthier and happier and more ready to learn. Also on the plus side, it can reduce pollution and congestion outside schools. Improved air quality reduces the incidence of asthma and other respiratory conditions.
Please encourage your children, if possible, to walk to school this week.
