Year 2 – Spring Term 2019 – Overview

This spring we will be focusing on our D&T skills to find out about marvellous mechanisms. We will discover if we can lift a teacher using a lever. We will design and make our own catapults and then test them by playing the ‘Flying Frosties’ game. Finally we will be investigating wheels and axels by transporting an egg safely in a buggy.

In English, we will start the term by writing our own stories with repetitive language. Then we will be writing an instruction text on how to lift a teacher. We will also celebrate book week by looking at people who ‘Dare to be Different’.

In Maths, we will be continuing to develop our mathematical skills in addition and subtraction. We will be learning about 2D and 3D shapes and their properties, statistics, fractions and measuring length and height.

In Computing, we will use Scratch to design a game using coding and debugging.

In Art, we will be developing skills for sculpting, whilst learning from famous British sculptors Antony Gormley and Barbara Hepworth to create our own pieces.

In RE, we will be looking at special places, prayer and saying thanks to God.

In PE, we will be gymnasts and we will apply our skills through low and high balances and twisting and turning.

We look forward to a busy and exciting term ahead.
