We are so looking forward to our last half term of Year 3 with your amazing children! It’s hard to believe we are here already.
Here is a reminder of some of the highlights of the first half of Spring Term:
Sculpture Project
New for 2026! We had a lot of fun with this new art project. Inspired by the children’s passion for nature and the beautiful book ‘The Last Rainbow Bird’ by Nora Brech, we created bird sculptures which we displayed in dazzling flocks in the playground trees. The children practised creating art with exaggeration to take their drawing skills further, and then worked hard with clay and wire to create a practical base with an armature that would support and enable hanging of the clay. Once the children had attached their wings, tails and eyes, the birds were ready to fly. We’ll definitely be doing this project again after seeing how successfully the children handled it.
It was lovely to be able to take this project outside and work in the new outdoor area – the hard tables were perfect for helping us shape the clay while the shelter kept us cool and calm!
Outdoor Learning Week and World Bee Day
The week before half term was Outdoor Learning Day. Year 3 needed no extra encouragement to use the new outdoor area and to explore our school area! We investigated the pond and carried out some bee-related learning outside, including looking for pollinators, admiring the planting that the school gardening club has done making the school more bee-friendly and enjoying some fun team-building activities on Express Yourself Day. We believe outdoor learning shouldn’t just take place in one week and will be continuing to take the children outside whenever possible in June and July!
