Our Learning > Our Classes

A Year 1 Class Post

Year 1 week 3 and 4 Summer 1

Over the past 2 weeks we have been continuing to write our ‘All about plants’ books in English. We have been writing facts about parts of a plant and using subheadings to categorise which section we are writing about. We have also looked at introductions and written our own introduction to our books.

In Geography we have learnt about coastal areas and we can now identify physical and human features that we would see in a costal region such as cliffs, shore, lighthouse. In Explore More lots of children have been researching about lighthouse and have made their own light house models. This week we carried out fieldwork around the school. Our aim was to find out what the land around the school was used for. We took our tally charts and went for a walk around the school grounds. We discovered that most of the land was used for classrooms but paths came second followed closely by playgrounds.

In maths we have been learning to halve amounts and objects. So, if you are ordering a pizza over the weekend you might want to get your child to slice it into half.

We are using clay in art to make our vases. Last week we designed our vases into our sketch book and this week we have used our chosen method to create the vase. The vases will dry over the next 2 weeks ready for decorating when we return to school after half term.
